A Chance for a Better Tomorrow by soulblade35 A Chance for a Better Tomorrow by soulblade35
An illustration made in celebration of Earth Day last April 22, 2009.

Here is a brief description of how I came up with this:

1. The Earth is represented by a flower, symbolizing renewal, or rebirth, blossomed again as much newer, fresher and livelier than before.
2. The petals show the flags of the nations of the world, and being in one with the flower, they are united in contributing regarding environmental concerns.
3. Principal color schemes are blue, green and brown, befitting the colors of the earth and nature.

It is never too late to act now for our planet's sake. But time is ticking very fast until the somewhat liveable world we live in is no longer what is used to be in the nearest future.

Uh-huh, but it's done in a sketchy manner somehow. I'd be re-editing this drawing someday, but thanks for the comment anyway :)

Interesting. I think this is the first time I've seen artwork done in crayon on DeviantART. I think it would look much better without the people. They seem to be just scribbled in for effect, but I think that takes away from the emotional impact that the picture could convey.

Thanks for the wonderful comments. That's all what I really need.

Back then, I have that idea of having several people surrounding the flowerpot. What are they for? Well, as you have said -- they are there for effect. They seem to be celebrating or some sort. And since I really wanted the flowerpot the focus of this image, I think that they should not be drawn as detailed as the flowerpot, for it might cause distraction. I thought that would work sucessfully.

Since now you've told me that it didn't work in some way, I might as well consider your suggestion -- not today, but some other time. Re-doing this drawing is not that difficult, as long as I have my light table, extra papers, and time for that to happen.

It's my first attempt evar of a drawing with a more thematic theme, and I'm happy that you find the theme well expressed here! Did I?

Well, that's my given interpretation of the earth being reborn, and I think that a flower really fit as an representational icon.

Yeah!, you did it really well, especialy for a first time, because these kind of theme's are very difficult to portrait
I like that idea :D

Actually it's bit difficult because that requires a lot of thought. What symbolic elements would I use? What the message will be? To help me find a model and inspiration, I started observing posters and murals -- and to stimulate my mind, I imagined that I would be joining an Earth Day art contest -- though this illustration has never been included in any actual contest whatsoever.

So there it is -- my interpretation of how we could help our earth a livable place once more by helping mother nature recover again and save our planet from total destruction because of our own doing. :D
